An Association styled “THE SALEM DISTRICT TABLE TENNIS ASSOCIATION”

game of Table Tennis of the then larger Salem District i.e, large area covering present district of Salem, Dharmapuri, Namakkal,
Krishnagiri and functioning at YMCA, Bretts Road, Salem. The primary object of
the Association was to improve the standard of the game among all age groups. Clubs
attached to industries, like Mettur Chemicals, Chemplast at Mettur and India Cements at Sankagiri were the main contributors
to thegame along with non-industry oriented lone club of YMCA at Salem.
During 70s Dalmia Recreation of Dalmia Magnesite joined the association

and lovers and Table Tennis.
Talented & leading players form various parts of our country were
brought to Salem for Participating in National Level tournaments

We passed thro some dull years when the District got further divided
into Namakkal and Salem when virtually India Cement Recreation
Club got affiliated to Namakkal District. Association and lot of players left Salem
and there was a general slackness among players.
of schools in Salem provided infrastructure for Table Tennis
and young boys & girls started showing keen interest in this game. Some talented
players like Mr. A.S.Kannabiran, Mr. A.S.Jayakrishnan, and Mr. S.Obuli Shankar have started giving coaching to many school
children and through them the Salem boys & girls are now shining and have achived new heights
both in State & All

and by Kannabiran, Jayakrishnan where more and more young boys and girls take strenuous training.
There is good
opportunity for Salemites to achieve new heights if Association, Players, Coachers and parents work together in the coming
